Liquiterra Designs 2019 Solar & Lunar Calendar Map is a 68" x 24" representation of the waxing and waning light and darkness as the Earth revolves around the Sun through the seasons (from the Northern Hemisphere) and the Moon revolves around the Earth in the lunar month.  This version is printed in Arizona Time on the finest quality map paper.

The modern calendar that we use today took thousands of years to define.  It is based both on the 365 day solar year and on the moon’s cycle (moon being the root word of “month”).  The advent of the calendar helped early agricultural societies determine when farmers would come to market and pay a portion of their grains (taxes) to the government.

In this calendar map, we represent the Earth’s relationship with the Sun in the “Solar Curve,” which shows the growing light in the Northern Hemisphere at its lowest point at Winter Solstice to peaking at its highest point at Summer Solstice.  We also represent the relationship of the Earth, Moon, and Sun with the “Lunar Curve,” showing the New Moons at the nadir of the curve and the Full Moons at the apex of the curve.

This representation expresses at least 2 basic rhythms that serve as the undercurrents of our life.  Our life is somewhat structured by the more obvious Solar Curve as we clearly move through the obvious seasonal shifts.  The Lunar rhythm is perhaps more subtle. One may or may not recognize the Moon’s rhythm as it ebbs and flows through the phases, but it does provide a guiding rhythm in our lives.
